No, the upgrade will be free, but in order to get the information from the database (user data, posts, forums, etc.) you have to request a dump of the database, which currently costs $110 for a forum of our size.

I use TextMate for all of my code editing. It's a really slick text editor for the Mac and supports my language of choice: Ruby, on the Rails Framework. All of the code is my own, though I reference RailsCasts.com and RailsForum.com if I'm stuck on how to most efficiently program something.

The host I'd like to use is SliceHost. Rails runs best on either a Virtual Private Server or a full-blown Dedicated Server. Slicehost VPS's are very reasonably priced (on the order of 50% cheaper than most) because they coded all of their own server management software. They're also extremely knowledgeable about Rails in a production environment, which is currently very rare.

If I must go with shared hosting, I would choose A Small Orange, though that is a distant second choice.

It's a mix. The Articles preview is merely a component of the site. I guess if you wanted to break it down, it would go something like this:

-- MGSForums
+ Forum
+ Site
++ Articles
++ Gallery
++ etc..

A staff blog would be cool if we could get active participation. I'd like to try my hand at a proprietary chat application, too.

It really depends on the timing of their release. I would think that they'll release soon, so yeah. I mean, ZB is definitely a step up from IF, which I'll take any day of the week.

What I'm really interested in is the fee they'll charge to give us a database dump for ZB, because if we dumped it right now it would be $110.

What program/s are you using to code and adapt samples from? Also, what host/s are you considering?
